The initial micro prototype called the Tidal Current Surface Crawler (TCSC) has an overall ocean footprint of 6’ by 9’, and an interface footprint of 4’ by 8’ by 0.8’ of penetration. Initial tests point to a power rating in excess of 1kW. It is anticipated that the cost of power, when fully commercialized, will be less than $0.02 per kWh. Power capture is directly related to the volumetric dimensions of the interface footprint.
Design of the next generation prototype of this innovative technology is well underway, with an expected power rating for a 100 foot by 40 foot four-module array approaching 1MW.
